Rams‘ Puka Nacua says he and Davante Adams will ‚be a headache‘

Nacua still can’t believe he’s Adams‘ teammate after growing up watching him as a Packers fan

After teaming up with Cooper Kupp at wide receiver for the last two years, Puka Nacua will have a new partner in crime this year: Davante Adams. The Rams signed Adams in free agency, pairing him with their superstar receiver to give Matthew Stafford yet another playmaker on the outside.

Nacua grew up a Packers fan and loved watching Adams do his thing in Green Bay, so this is a particularly special opportunity for him. And even six months later, he’s still in shock that he gets to be Adams’ teammate.

“It’s been a dream come true,” Nacua said Thursday. “We were just out at practice the other day and I’m sitting next to him under the tent while it’s a hundred and something outside but just thinking like, dude I think you could scroll back somewhere in my Twitter profile and there’d be tweets saying, ‘Go Pack Go. I can’t wait to watch the Packers and especially to watch number 17.’ To think that my locker is going to be next to his as we’re putting on the same uniform is still super exciting.”

Adams has acclimated to Los Angeles quickly, already wowing his teammates and coaches in practice. Nacua has loved learning from him throughout the offseason and when it comes time to suit up on Sundays, he knows the Rams’ new receiving tandem is going to be a problem for opposing defenses.

“It feels surreal, but I know it’s going to be a headache for the defense across from us,” Nacua added.

Nacua quickly became close with Kupp during his rookie season and that carried over into the 2024 season. He learned a ton from the veteran wideout, both on the field and off it, helping him become a true pro in his first two seasons.

He feels similarly about having Adams next to him now.

“I think a little bit and then also I feel like it was very similar to ‘Coop,’” he said. “It took me a second to find my locker next to his, but just the ability to be on the same page and just to communicate. I think the advantage that we’ve had as a Rams organization, we got another great person in Davante Adams and then another great football player. It just adds to the culture that we have here and it speaks to the two human beings Davante and Cooper. The ability to get out there and to be willing to teach the younger guys and then also to communicate with guys in the locker room and to have fun and just be one of the boys.”

Nacua and Adams are unquestionably one of the best wide receiver duos in the league, up there with Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins, Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle, A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith and CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens. By the end of the year, it could wind up being the very best, especially if Matthew Stafford stays healthy.
