The club’s chief operating officer, Paul Kingsmore, attended the latest meeting of the senior supporters‘ association to announce the change, which will take effect from the 2025/26 season. The policy will apply to all fans over the age of 85 who have held a card for at least three seasons and have renewed their membership for the upcoming season. The club added that it intends to continue to adhere to the policy in future seasons as well.

Fans eligible for a refund will shortly receive a letter inviting them to visit the club’s ticket office, where they can process their refund request.

Meanwhile, David Bruce, Chief Business Officer, said of the recent stadium renovation: „Our return to the Premier League represents a pivotal moment for the Club, and our fans have once again been at the heart of our actions ahead of the new season.

„This investment reflects our ambition to deliver a world-class experience for fans, players, and partners. From enhanced general admission areas to enhanced premium offerings, every touchpoint at the Stadium of Light has been carefully considered to ensure its Premier League readiness. We look forward to our fans experiencing these new experiences when we welcome Real Betis to Wearside this weekend, as we continue preparations for the start of a new era.“
